Character Factions

Every person, whether good or evil, even those who stand in the middle of the battlefield, have a group they belong to. Some answer the calling of a hero, others the darkness of a villain, and some refuse to pick a side. These are the superheroes of the world, even those who seem to understand being a civilian as moral support will help their heroes stand and their most hated villains fall. But through everything they all belong to some organization, whether they realize it or not, and many will soon come to realize just how important this perspective on things can claim their lives. Some are consumed, others are unsure of where they stand. Fortunately there is always the chance to change sides, and the events leading up to it even more profound. In the end it depends on the person — even those who think they know where they stand will always find a change of heart, walking a path which could be good... Or evil.NOTE: Characters listed in crimson are considered off-limits until the future. Those who have a line through their name are considered deceased.

Avengers

Defenders of the earth

The recently sanctioned government team known as the Avengers are a series of heroes and vigilantes, brought together under the premise of saving the world. Many answer the call, some refuse. So far S.H.I.E.L.D. has found it relatively easy to keep a the reins tight, but not all information is shared. To combat the ever-growing need for superheroes the world over a second team has been sanctioned. Now there are two: one to cover the day, and the other the night. All must work together as a team in order to survive or the Avengers are sure to fail. Personality clashes, moral compasses, and even their set standards will never allow them to see eye-to-eye, but the need to face evil and stave off darkness in the world has become a common bond between each and every one of them. One can only hope it will withstand the test of time.

Heroes

Those who take a stand

Any superpowered individual can be a hero, but only those with dedication and a sense of righteousness that doesn't border on egoism can be a superhero. The heroes of the world are those who sometimes band together to form the strongest allegiances in the world. It's unfortunately there is a villain for every hero, but those who remain steadfast and willing to do what is necessary can be anything they want to be. In the end heroes are those the civilians turn to. Some are skeptical of the good their doing, even going so far as to believe heroes will become just as dangerous as villains choose to be, but heroes will always stand by the people even when the odds are against them. Heroes are willing to sacrifice themselves, their powers, and the whole entirety of their lives to being who they are meant to be. Saving the world means a little sacrifice in their personal lives, and differentiating between their secret identities and their superhero faces proves a daunting task to even the most willing of heroes.

Any character may be a hero as long as they are not canonically a villain (i.e. there have been villains who become heroes and vice versa). To become a hero in-game after being a villain there has to be a redeeming quality about them that will allow this. Villains

Masters of darkness

The opposite of a hero, villains are those who take pleasure and gain power through hurting the good of the world. Whether it's against heroes or civilians, villains are always there to make someone's day somewhere horrible. Villains choose to be evil, often have genius schemes, and many are a force to be reckoned with. When a villain stands against a hero there is a chance they may come out on top, but many villains recognize how dangerous it is for them now that heroes have begun to join forces. So the villains are far-reaching, seeking out new recruits to their cause or even to ensure other villains stand alongside them in this world of justice and ever-growing hope. If it wasn't for the darkness blanketing humanity heroes would not be needed, and villains know they have a chance at finally getting their way to ruling the world as long as they remain firm and stand against all that is good and just. Even the outer reaches and other planes have seen villains come to Earth, and it is because of this the dark age continues to grow even as the heroes begin to rise from the shadows themselves.

To become a villain in-game after being a hero there has to be some event occurring that will allow this. PM a staff member if there are any questions and we will help in any way possible. ]

X-Men & New Mutants

Evolutionary defense

Created by Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr, the X-Men are a team comprised of mutants gathered from all over the globe. Trained in the use of their powers for good the X-Men were conditioned to never kill but always to do the right thing in the best way they know how. To be an X-Man is to stand for what is good and right for all mutants, and under the tutelage of both Charles and Erik the team has flourished into a willing unit. With the recent revealing of mutants to the world, Charles and Erik have opened Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, a place for mutants who have been kicked out and abandoned to find sanctuary or to learn about their powers. To facilitate their endeavors in training young mutants, the X-Men have taken on a smaller team known as the New Mutants. Teaching them how to be X-Men and to use their powers carefully as well as for good, the New Mutants are the future of mutant kind — even if homework still gets in the way.

Young Avengers

superpowered school kids

The Young Avengers really aren't what you think. There is no affiliation to the real Avengers, and there is no way their parents would ever agree to what they do when night falls. This little motley crew of young superheroes has taken it upon themselves to do the rescuing where the Avengers will not, often stopping bank-robbers and thieves, but sometimes helping the police against riots when the Avengers don't show up. This all started when they joined together and had the genius idea of becoming their own superhero team after discovering one another had abilities like the heroes they idolized. During the day they go to high school just like every other teenager in New York City, but at night they don their superhero costumes and become the Young Avengers, earth's mightiest high schoolers.

S.H.I.E.L.D.

All secret, no action

The real name of the secret government organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. is the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division. After some careful thought they found out their name actually stands for a good acronym and began going by it. S.H.I.E.L.D. specializes in superhuman and otherworldly activities, always running projects such as bridging the gap between Asgard and Earth, as well as through creating the Avengers as a secret superhero enforcement team. Their job is to do cover-ups, to ensure information not yet ready for the public eye and everything else in-between is kept a secret, and to protect the superhuman citizens springing up all over the world. Headed by Nicholas Fury with several agents along the way to becoming leaders, the organization works efficiently to head off villainy before it occurs, and to make sure the superpowered community is given a chance to survive in a world that may turn out to hate them.

Civilians

Modern day heroes

Those who stand beside the heroes, the villains, and even the unaffiliated of the world are known as civilians. They are human in all aspects of the word, though on some occasions they will be part of the superpowered community. Civilians often stand by their respective heroes, often choosing to be the voice of reason and in some cases the personal assistant. Without civilians the heroes and villains would never find the right thought in planning, and sometimes would even become shadows of their former selves. From personal assistants to lovers, civilians shape heroes and villains to what they are meant to be, often becoming one of the aforementioned when the time calls for it. They will take up arms and defend their friends with a passion, proving just as useful in many volatile situations as the superheroes (and villains) of the world.

Virginia "Pepper" Potts
[ Any character may be a civilian, however keep in mind they are more likely to take a proactive approach to whatever side they choose (i.e. hero or villain). This doesn't mean they are active in the field and most often will sit back to let the real heroes and villains do the hard work. ]

Unaffiliated

Choose a side

When individuals refuse to take sides but know they must one day, they are considered unaffiliated — neutral. The unaffiliated often remain on the sidelines, watching the fights going on around them with keen interest and sometimes apathy, finding it easier to not get involved and instead to do their own thing. What many neutrals don't realize is sooner or later they have to pick aside — they are either with a team or against a team, and some will always see it black and white. Unaffiliated have their own quirks and positions, their purposes unclear but soon unveiling themselves as time drudges on. When it comes down to it there is either a good thing or a bad thing to be had, and their lives will some come to clarity when the right catalyst manifests it.

Daredevil
Deadpool
Elektra
Gambit
Ghost Rider
Quicksilver
Scarlet Witch
X-23
[ Characters may start out as unaffiliated before moving into a member group, or may start out in a member group and change to unaffiliated based on in-game events. To start as an unaffiliated there must be a plan as not all unaffiliated characters may be involved in group plot threads and the like. If there are any questions please PM a staff member so we may assist you in figuring out some of these plot-driven ideas. ]

HYDRA

That seven-headed beast

Formerly a shadow organization under special operations for the Third Reich in World War Two, HYDRA is actually its own organization originally called the Brotherhood of the Spear, in which they ingrained themselves in all facets of society, from economy to military organization. HYDRA had since made a name for itself when Johann Shmidt, also known as the Red Skull, took over in an attempt to seal the organization's place in the world. A man of power, Red Skull sought to harness the energy of the legendary Cosmic Cube but failed when his attempts were thwarted by Captain America. After his disappearance, Madame Viper swooped in to gain control, bringing about a new age for HYDRA and taking it to the underbelly of society. Building up assets and alliances alike, Madame Viper has since provided support for many organizations throughout the world, including AIM, the newly formed Right, and the more recent Church of Humanity. HYDRA encompasses many forms of leadership and power, and has since added the fractured Weapon PLUS program to their ranks, welcoming any and all who want one thing: their own world under the regime of true influence.

[ Other characters may apply to be part of HYDRA as the organization now welcomes many who will fight for their cause. From those who were part of the Weapon PLUS program, to S.H.I.E.L.D. agents who are desperate for a place to be seen. They even welcome mutants and villains who want to do more than live peacefully under a false identity. Simply request to make someone an agent of HYDRA and the staff will generally be okay with it if they fit. ]

Fantastic Four

Science & power!

The Fantastic Four, a recently formed superhero group, consists of some of the brightest minds and newly found superpowers in the world. Lead by the highly intelligent Reed Richards, also known as Mr. Fantastic, this team focuses their efforts where the Avengers or other heroes do not. Their expertise lies not only in combating the world's evil but also in that of the scientific field, providing valuable inventions and knowledge for those who are less prepared. Luckily for them, the rise of superheroes and the acceptance of them by the general public (despite some bad publicity), makes it easier for them to integrate into a world steadily filling with stronger individuals (and evil) everyday.

[ The Fantastic Four is a closed team, meaning no others may join the group for the foreseeable future. ]
