Calm Before The Storm

Issue #000.5

"Avengers! Assemble!" What mankind did not expect erupted from a display of power unlike any other seen before. The Avengers, a superhero team sanctioned by the government, has become the face of crime-fighting on a global scale. Responding to deadly threats the world over hope has become something everyone has a chance to look forward to. But with every superhero there comes a villain, organized by those as nefarious as they are. And as the world looks to the Avengers for safety, the underworld looks to another. Loki, having vanished when the Bifrost was destroyed, has resurfaced again, biding his time and waiting for his moment to strike. What he seeks can be found within S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Admiralty Facility — it is the key to his revenge. His target? The Cosmic Cube, an item with unlimited potential but no viable way to tap into it. For now he knows he must lay in waiting to stand against the Avengers, and to do so he will need all the otherworldly help he can get.

In New York City and across the world as a whole a new phenomena has begun to emerge: mutants. Evolved past the normal stages of human genetics, mutants possess great power and need to learn great responsibility. Two great minds, Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr, have taken the reins in many of these young mutants' lives, directing them to a greater goal and that is to save the world. But Erik possesses unrest toward humanity and how their reaction to mutantkind will be the same as Hitler's to the Jewish population. Even with his doubts the young mutants have banned together, becoming the X-Men. The world as we know it has changed. Everything we thought we knew about crime and the way criminals worked has changed with it.

ONLY THE BEGINNING

From Jotunheim, the realm Loki was born on and then stolen from by the hand of Odin, the God of Mischief summons down Beli and several Frost Giants in preparation for his first move against Midgard. An agreement is made between Beli and the Trickster, setting into motion a series of events none could have foreseen.

MISCHIEF & MAYHEM

While several Avengers are called away Loki lays siege to the Admiralty Facility. Within level five quarantine is an object of unknowable power: the Cosmic Cube. Killing guards left and right before the remaining Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents can intercept, Loki manages to steal the Cube — but not before injuring the Black Widow psychically and himself physically.

A COLD WIND BLOWS

In order to distract S.H.I.E.L.D. from his true intentions, Loki has unleashed a small group of Frost Giants on Montreal, Quebec in Canada. With Captain America at the helm, an even smaller unit of Avengers responds to the carnage laying siege to the city. Once the Jotuns are close to defeat, however, the true enemy shows up, displaying the power of the Cosmic Cube now in Loki's possession as he sends a signal of war to those outside the Earth. Despite being televised the horrors abound in Canada only serve to fuel the public support of the Avengers.

STORM FRONT

Reed Richards, a leading scientist in a variety of fields, has finally achieved his dream of taking his own private space ship into the universe beyond Earth. Despite being incapable of going too far from the bounds of the planet, the Cosmic Storm is his team's end goal. To study, to calculate, and to be caught in the storm as the Cosmic Cube's residual energy triggers the storm early on. This team of space adventurers are to one day become the Fantastic Four.

LEVEL SEVEN

S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Maria Hill, second-in-command to Director Nicholas Fury, calls about a debriefing to reveal information previously unknown about the assailant at the Admiralty Facility, as well as what attacked Montreal. Tensions arise as the Avengers discover Agent Hill's utter disdain for them, leading to sectioning off of those capable of analyzing data on the stolen Cosmic Cube, as well as to find a way to respond to Loki's threat of war.

WHITE WATERS

Upon his return to Jotunheim, Loki seizes the throne of the Frost Giant's realm, hidden from the eyes of Odin and Heimdall. Embracing his lineage as the Son of Laufey, Loki prepares for the inevitable arrival of his brother to the frozen wastelands to officially declare war on Midgard — and to wait for the arrival of those he called to his aid.

LET'S HAVE A WAR

As Loki predicted, Thor arrives on Jotunheim in an attempt to talk to his brother, trying to urge him to give up his foolish act of chasing down dreams of power and greed — to return home. Loki, so far corrupted by the power of the Cosmic Cube, appears ready for a war he believes he can win.

Clockwork Pandemonium

Issue #001

"Honor is for the living! We had to find someone like you to examine -- or die!" One thing humanity has always pondered is whether or not they are alone in the universe. When beings from other realms began to appear, wielding powers of a godly nature, S.H.I.E.L.D. became very aware of life outside Earth, beyond comprehension of all their science and knowledge. Belief in other worlds had finally blossomed, became more of a priority despite random occurrences in the past. But not all extraterrestrial life has been found, as more and more begin to appear. Some are peaceful, others are not. But when a new threat had risen to overthrow the balance of power on Earth, something becomes quite clear: not all wars are fought fair.

After successfully stealing the Cosmic Cube, an artifact of untold power, from the clutches of S.H.I.E.L.D., Loki has used it to summon a new enemy for the inhabitants of Midgard to face: the Alpha Centaurians. A feudal civilization, war-faring in all their endeavors, have appeared upon Earth, laying siege to the island of Manhattan as their first step to conquering the planet. Their main target? Earth's water supply. Armed with weapons tied to the limitless power of the Cosmic Cube, and with Loki alongside them, leading the charge against a race of would-be heroes, all seems lost. Heroes rise up to fight, to end a war having just begun against a new species with only their courage and their abilities to aid them. But the war seems a misdirection yet again, leaving Loki to his own devices with few to stand in his way. His ultimate goal? To obtain another artifact of immeasurable power and wealth of knowledge. A stepping-stone to a greater power is what he seeks, and the heroes will learn too late just how volatile their situation truly is.

BLACK MARKET BLOOD

The Alpha Centaurians, a warfaring race of aliens, has arrived on Earth. Their first target is the Brooklyn Bridge, in which they destroy a majority of the center, the mother ship hovering dozens of feet above it. What have they come for? Setting up siphon machines to steal Earth's water supply.

    Did stuff and things.

SPITE AND MALICE

A group of Alpha Centaurians and Jotuns (provided by Loki Laufeyson), have appeared in the downtown area of Manhattan to destroy the central power station for the island, attempting to cut off all communication to the city. They meet opposition as a group of Avengers and several random heroes on the streets appear to help.
AFTER SPITE AND MALICE
    Description here.

PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE

Amidst the most densely populated area of Manhattan, the midtown area, the biggest force of Alpha Centaurians and Jotuns appear as a distraction. Their mission? Kill everything they see which isn't part of their group. With aerial support, Director Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. move in to work damage control.

BURN THE OBEDIENT

While the aliens and frost giants are busy causing havoc throughout most of Manhattan, Loki himself is focusing on a S.H.I.E.L.D. warehouse in the uptown area of Manhattan, rumored to hold dozens of artifacts possessing immense power. He may be after only one thing, but along with a small entourage of Alpha Centaurians and Jotuns, it may very well be something to help him further his goals to conquer the universe and everything in it.

RUMORS OF OTHER WORLDS

The alien invasion on Midgard has wracked up quite the body count in less than a few hours, drawing the attention of the All-Father and all of Asgard. To combat this betrayal by the God of Mischief, Odin himself appears with the Asgardian army to fight off the attackers while heroes and villains alike team up to destroy the water siphons erected near the Brooklyn Bridge.

SERPENT IN THE GARDEN

After his success in obtaining the Book of the Vishanti from one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s secure warehouses, albeit at the loss of the Alpha Centaurians and many of his Jotuns, Loki appears on Asgard in the absence of the All-Father and Odin's army. There Loki discovers a man with similar ideals to what the God of Mischief wants, and the Liesmith frees him in an effort to set Midgard against itself one villainous organization at a time.

Stuff from the time skip. What they did, where they went, etc.

Seven-Headed Beast

Issue #002

"Hail Hydra! Immortal Hydra! Cut off a limb and two more shall take its place!" It has been two months since the Alpha Centaurians laid waste to New York City; two months since Loki has disappeared to whereabouts unknown, Cosmic Cube in tow. The roiling storm that once blanketed every life, shadowed every decision, has finally passed. Serene peace cannot exist in the lives of heroes and villains, of the citizens of the world, and many have realized this. A glance over the shoulder, jumping when someone comes near — all of it speaks volumes for the wary and how the worst is still yet to come. But in this time of supposed peace New York City is being rebuilt, and the public cries out for more than just inept heroes to protect them. Pushed to create a better security blanket to tide America's citizens over Stark Industries has released the latest weapons technology for the newly appointed government organization known as the Office of National Emergency, or O*N*E. From out of the ashes a false sense of security has risen, and S.H.I.E.L.D. can only look on as the blame is thrown their way.

And what of the sudden emergence of the higher species known as homo superior? A well-kept government secret for decades, mutants have finally revealed themselves by protecting the innocent against the alien invasion. But as always insecurity has driven a wedge into what those with mutations are really capable of against that of normal humanity. Considered blasphemous and demon spawn, religious organizations such as the Church of Humanity have risen to speak out against these vile creatures. Mutants seek to live their own lives but human beings have other plans. To protect defenseless mutants who are thrown out onto the streets Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr have opened Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, a safe haven for those under threat or those who want to learn to control their mutations. Some have refused the offer of peace and security and instead turned to using their powers without thought to the well-being of others, creating even more tension between the mutant school and the United States government.

From deep in the shadows comes another organization, thought to have been wiped out when Captain America first showed his face in World War Two. HYDRA, the special operations organization thought to have been working with Adolf Hitler, has risen again but remained out of the spotlight. Instead they are focusing their endeavors elsewhere, and with the triumphant return of the Red Skull from a universe unknown as well as the cooperative leadership of Madame Viper, the threat they pose may be the last thing S.H.I.E.L.D. and, undoubtedly, the world, may ever see.

Doctor Curtis Connors, a scientist working with Oscorp, dosed himself with an experimental serum intended to regrow his lost arm. The side effects were devastating, with his body mutating into that of a fearsome beast known as The Lizard. Peter Parker, a young high school student bitten by a radioactive spider and thusly gaining superhuman abilities, rose to the challenge and defeated the mutated Connors, saving New York City from a bio-terrorism assault. While damages were minimal compared to the devastation of the alien invasion, the world is beginning to question the security S.H.I.E.L.D. can bring, as well as just what the Avengers stand for.

EMERGENCY ENDEAVORS

As the clean-up of New York commences the rest of the United States and soon the world begins to cry out for more than just the Avengers. Fallen from grace, the superhero team has proven to be inefficient in dealing with the threats the world may face. To help take some of the heat off S.H.I.E.L.D.'s star team, Stark Industries has pushed to create the Office of National Emergency with the United States government at the helm. A reluctant move of handing over Iron Man tech to help facilitate this has left Tony Stark with less hope for the future superheroes will undoubtedly face.
