Timeline

Seeing as how we incorporate some Marvel movies into the mix here on Universal Initiative, as well as our own twists to the in game plot, the staff has come up with a timeline that will assist players in creating a character and knowing just what happened and when on the board. Even though some things may seem off based on years and months that the movies occurred we have to keep in mind how many different kinds of movies there have been. This is a rough estimate of how the movies worked and how they affect the Universal Initiative timeline itself. If there are any questions about this information please just PM an administrator and we will answer it as soon as possible. Credits for this timeline go to the creator of this awesome thing right here, which also contains information not listed amongst the timeline here. Information starting on May 16th, 2011 has been altered to acclimate to Universal Initiative's personal history timeline.

Dr. Bruce Banner joins the group at Culver University in Willowdale in south western Virginia working on a way to strengthen cellular resistance to radiation, possibly at insistence of girlfriend Dr. Betty Ross, daughter of General Ross. General Ross lies to the scientists on the project, informing them that their work will help protect soldiers from depleted uranium.

January 12th, 2006

Under the threat of funding cuts, Banner volunteers to test process on himself resulting in the accident that turns him into a powerful, mutated humanoid. Gamma pulse combined with serum that Betty Ross was developing triggers mutation. Later, gamma pulses somehow stored in Banner’s brain’s amygdala and released during high stress moments will trigger mutation. Betty Ross is injured and hospitalized. General Ross admits to Banner that project is being developed as weapon, not just defense. Banner goes on the run. In the wake of the accident, the military closes the entire lab building for a year and shuts down the entire Bio Tech Force Enhancement project. General Ross secretly holds onto some material, Dr. Betty Ross also secretly holds onto project data, remaining at Culver University as a professor of cellular biology.

February 4th, 2007 - March 17th, 2010

At some point, the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division (S.H.I.E.L.D.) is brought in to help Ross and his task force recover Banner. Following the successful demonstration of the new Jericho Missile Weapons System outside of Kabul, Afghanistan, the military convoy escorting Stark is attacked by the Ten Rings terrorist group under the leadership of Raza, who is working at least in part for Obadiah Stane. Stark is wounded by Stark Industries-manufactured weapons and is captured. During his three months of capture, Stark is forced to build version of Jericho with fellow captive Yinsen, the scientist who saved his life, for the Ten Rings terrorist group. He instead builds an armored, exo-skeleton battle suit powered by a miniature arc reactor and uses it to escape, although Yinsen dies in the attempt. Following his being found by the U.S. military, Stark is taken to Germany where he is checked out by Army doctors and then subjected to debriefings from the CIA, NSA and others.

Coulson stresses to Stark how they can teach him how to fight.

October 25th, 2009

At a press conference the day following his showdown with Stane, Stark rejects S.H.I.E.L.D.’s constructed alibi for the events of the previous evening and admits to the world that he is Iron Man. That evening, S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury approaches Stark about a project called the “Avengers Initiative". Stark declines, Fury calls in Natasha Romanoff (A.K.A. Black Widow). Stark arrives at the Historic Grand Prix of Monaco and, in a moment of spontaneity, quips “What’s the point of having a car if you don’t drive it”. He replaces Team Stark’s regular driver DiFilipo in Race G. Ivan Vanko attacks Stark along the section of the Circuit de Monaco between turns 16 and 17 by the harbour. Switching into a portable, lightweight Iron Man armor (Silver Centurion), Stark defeats Vanko. Later that evening, Stark visits Vanko in prison before flying back to US with Potts.

May 10th, 2010

Depressed over his inability to solve his palladium poisoning dilemma, he gets drunk at his birthday party, which leads to a confrontation with Rhodes, who dons the Mark II Iron Man armor. The ensuing fight wrecks a portion of Stark’s Malibu home. Rhodes leaves with the Mark II suit.

May 11th, 2010

Fury is informed that Stark has only seventy-two hours left to live due to his palladium poisoning. Handed lithium dioxide to slow the effects of the condition, Fury leaves to meet Stark. Also at this time Fury is told that Banner has passed through U.S. Customs and orders Agent Sitwell to track him. Agent Coulson informs Fury of 'atmospheric disturbances' they are picking up in the 'southwest' region. Rhodes delivers the Mark II suit to the military at Edwards Air Force Base. Mark II suit is turned over to Justin Hammer for weapons upgrading on the order of General Meade, though not before Rhodes secretly removes the suit’s arc reactor. Jane Foster contacts her mentor, Dr. Eric Selvig, who flies out to New Mexico to help her monitor the atmospheric disturbances. Foster's message is intercepted by S.H.I.E.L.D. Tony visits Potts at Stark Industries where she mentions Hammer's presentation at the Expo is the next day, makes an intuitive breakthrough on how to fix his palladium/arc reactor problem; through the creation of a new element theorized by his father and hidden in the layout of Stark Expo.

May 12th, 2010

On Asgard, Thor's coronation is suddenly cut short when Odin senses a break-in in his treasure room. The culprits are discovered to be Frost Giants whom the Destroyer, as guardian, has killed. Thor is enraged at what he sees as an act of war. Nick Fury reassigns Agent Coulson from his detail with Tony Stark to investigate atmospheric activity in New Mexico. Stark builds a small cyclotron to create the element using equipment owned by PEGASUS. Hammer’s Stark Expo presentation is hijacked by Vanko, who uses drones to attack the crowd and Stark. After receiving a call from Vanko, Stark skips over tests on new arc reactor element in order to race across country and stop Vanko.

Iron Man defeats Vanko’s drones with help from Rhodes in modified Mark II armor, S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Romanoff, and Stark’s driver Happy Hogan. Hammer is arrested for his part in engineering Vanko’s escape. Before leaving Hammer Industries Romanoff downloads all the information stored on Hammer's mainframe. She then destroys the facility. Coulson arrives at S.H.I.E.L.D. outpost in Roswell, New Mexico to assemble his team of agents. Thor, Sif, Loki, and the Warriors Three travel to Jotunheim to seek justice for the Frost Giants' actions. A fight breaks out.

Foster, whilst investigating the atmospheric disturbances, detects a possible Einstein-Rosen Bridge (wormhole) in the nearby desert. Racing to the site with Selvig and her assistant Darcy, they discover Thor, having been stripped of his powers and cast out of Asgard by his father Odin for nearly provoking a war with the Frost Giants of Jotunheim. Thor, after provoking Darcy with his erratic behavior, is tasered and taken to a local hospital.

May 13th, 2010

On his way to Puente Antiguo (from Roswell, New Mexico), Coulson prevents an armed robbery taking place at a gas station. He also, after much indecision, purchases some donuts. Under orders from Fury, S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Clint Barton (A.K.A. Hawkeye) is sent to Puente Antiguo, New Mexico to assist Coulson. A Puente Antiguo, New Mexico local discovers Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir, in a crater about fifty miles east of town. Unable to lift it, he calls several other people to give it a try. Jane helps Thor escape from the hospital where he is being held and takes him back to her workplace. Coulson arrives in Puente Antiguo and discovers the site of Mjolnir. S.H.I.E.L.D. quickly quarantines the area and erects a portable laboratory over the site to study the hammer. Agent Clint Barton is one of the agents assigned to the operation and arrives later that day.

Loki discovers his true heritage, that Laufey the Frost Giant King is his real father. After confessing the truth to Loki, Odin collapses and enters into the Odinsleep. Sif and the Warriors Three begin to suspect Loki's treachery. That evening Thor and Foster head towards the site of the SHIELD installation erected around Mjolnir. Thor is captured trying to sneak in having failed to successfully lift the hammer. Loki appears before Thor who is being held at the S.H.I.E.L.D. installation and lies to him that Odin is dead. In the evening, Dr. Selvig goes to the installation and manages to get Coulson to release Thor into his custody.

Banner poses as a pizza delivery man to get access to Culver University’s computer labs and research database. He decides to leave that evening but as he prepares to leave Stanley’s he is accidentally seen by Betty. She has him stay the night at the home she shares with new lover Dr. Leonard Sampson. Sampson informs the military of Banner’s whereabouts. Meanwhile, Blonsky receives an unauthorized “low dose” injection of Bio Tech Enhancement Serum from General Ross. Fury sends Romanoff to tail Banner, aware that an imminent move by General Ross is to be made. She heads directly to Culver University.

May 14th, 2010

The Warriors Three and Sif head to Midgard to find Thor. Loki sends the Destroyer after them. At Culver University, Betty walks Banner to bus station in the early morning. As they are crossing the campus, they are attacked by the military and Betty becomes aware of the true extent of Banner’s condition. Blonsky seems to adapt well to Bio Tech Enhancement upgrade, but still gets beaten by transformed Banner, getting nearly every bone in his body pulverized. Banner's transformation and Blonsky's enhanced performance are witnessed by Romanoff. Hulk escapes the military with an unconscious Betty to a cave deep in the Smokey Mountains.

News of the battle can not be contained and quickly spreads across cable news channels and the internet. Culver University journalism student and campus newspaper reporter Jack McGee, who witnessed and captured the fight on cell phone video, names the transformed Banner “the Hulk” in an interview with WHIH news. His remarks will be played repeatedly over the next several days. S.H.I.E.L.D. continues to monitor the Hulk incident, the crater site in New Mexico as well as several other hot spots in Europe, Africa, and the Atlantic Ocean.

Stark has a debrief with S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Fury. Stark is offered an advisory position with the Avengers Initiative. He accepts the offer on condition that Senator Stern honors himself and Rhodes for their services. Romanoff informs Fury about Blonsky's enhanced attributes having witnessed his performance at the Culver University incident. Destroyer attacks SHIELD agents stationed at Puente Antiguo. Thor and his fellow Asgardians fight the Destroyer. During the battle, Thor proves himself worthy of his godly heritage and his powers are restored, allowing him to defeat the Destroyer.

Barton discovers the Destroyer's inanimate body in Puente Antiguo. Later that day, with the help of Coulson, they transport the body to Roswell, New Mexico. Thor, Sif, and the Warriors Three head back to Asgard where Thor reveals Loki’s plan to seize the throne of Asgard. Unfortunately, in the ensuing battle between the two, Thor is forced to destroy the Bifrost to prevent Loki from destroying Jotunheim and committing genocide against the Frost Giants. This action strands him in Asgard, unable to return to Midgard. Loki falls into space, disappearing into the ether and presumed dead.

May 16th, 2010

Banner and Betty arrive in New York City, bypassing roadblocks at the Holland Tunnel by bribing a boat owner to take them across the Hudson River, leaving them in lower Manhattan. They head uptown to meet with Sterns. Sterns and Banner try an experimental process to cure him, though it only succeeds in reversing the transformation, not ridding Banner of it completely. The military captures Banner, but Blonsky forces Sterns to inject him with blood products Sterns had developed from Banner’s blood sample. Blonsky is driven insane and mutates into the Abomination. Sterns is infected with Banner’s blood through an open wound, possibly gaining his own mutation. Banner convinces Ross to let him try and stop Blonsky. The two fight in Harlem, with the Hulk finally defeating Abomination, before being allowed by Ross to flee.

Following the NYC Hulk incident, Tony Stark arrives in NYC and approaches Ross about “putting a team together.” Stark is apparently on a mission to recruit Blonsky. However Ross is so enraged by Stark's behavior that he refuses to release him into S.H.I.E.L.D. custody.

June 16th, 2010

Banner accepts under the belief he will not be held hostage if he goes willingly.

February 22nd, 2011

Steve Rogers' crash site is found by a Russian oil team. Eighteen hours later S.H.I.E.L.D. agents are dispatched to the area where they find the frozen Rogers cryogenically preserved. S.H.I.E.L.D. continues their work. Analysis continues on Vanko's Whiplash/Hammer Technology, on Foster's Nine Realms Theory, on Sterns mutation and, finally, on transforming The Destroyer into a handheld weapon, and the research on the Tesseract and how to tap into its unlimited power source. Selvig still remains under the control of Loki.

March 11th, 2011

S.H.I.E.L.D. successfully reopens the Bifrost with the assistance of Jane Foster. Avengers become public knowledge after retrieving Thor from Asgard. July 11th, 2011 - July 16th, 2011

Loki resurfaces by sending Jotuns to Montreal, Quebec, Canada to cause a distraction while stealing the Cosmic Cube at the S.H.I.E.L.D. Admiralty Facility. Reed Richards, along with Susan Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm head to space where they are doused with cosmic radiation hyper-accelerated by the Cosmic Cube's energy when sent out as a beacon. Loki returns to Jotunheim where he claims his right to the throne left behind by the former King Laufey. After offering a meeting with Thor, the Golden Prince arrives on Jotunheim to speak with Loki, whom declares war on Midgard and all those upon it.

August 2011 - September 2011

After the defeat of the Alpha Centaurians and Jotuns, New York is currently in the stages of rebuilding. Many parts of the city are left in shambles while the homeless population has increased drastically. Several major industries have pitched forth efforts in sheltering many of those who lost their homes, as well as providing emergency relief by donating large sums of money to assist in medical problems and recovery. Stark Industries has made an official announcement on a new security department inline with the United States government, and the government has begun training a special division for National Security expansion.

October 2011

The Office of National Emergency (O*N*E*) has been announced as well as Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, in which mutants that are publicly exposed have a safe haven to run to when they are left on the streets. Peter Parker, who received powers from a radioactive spider at Oscorp, defeats The Lizard before Connors could commit bio-terrorism against New York City. Damaged areas are repaired and Connors is imprisoned.

Early December 2011 - CURRENT MONTH

O*N*E has established itself as the foremost National Security agency in the United States. The Avengers are taking heat from the fallout of the alien invasion as well as their lack of interference via The Lizard incident. S.H.I.E.L.D. has come into question about their loyalties and the World Security Council is beginning to doubt the efficiency of Nick Fury.
